Annual Walk for the Homeless rapidly approaching

Hundreds of people from southeast Ohio are expected to participate in Good Works’ 10th annual Walk for the Homeless on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event begins and ends at First United Methodist Church on College Street in uptown Athens. Each year, according to the news release announcing the walk, “Good Works creates several engaging and interactive experiences to inform the public about homelessness and poverty in southeast Ohio and to raise funds for the Good Works’ Timothy House the only shelter for the rural homeless in nine counties.”

Homelessness has increased dramatically in southeast Ohio this year. The Good Works Timothy House could not accommodate and had to turn away more than 135 people (including 60 children) already in 2011, the release said.

I usually don’t ask people to reblog my posts but if it isn’t too much to ask, please reblog this.
